Alligator repels a night boat attack at the Stone River

Alligator's small crew beat off British boats after dark and captured one of the attacking craft.

Notes

In January 1814 the American coasting schooner Alligator lay at anchor at the mouth of the Stone River in South Carolina. Her four guns and forty men faced a night attack by boats from a British frigate and brig. The attackers were beaten off with heavy losses, and one British boat was captured. Alligator lost two men killed and two wounded. The opposing British ships are left unnamed in the account.
