British night strikes and American daylight attacks could complement each other

A three- or four-carrier Allied force could divide work between British night attack and daytime air defense and American dawn and daylight strikes.

Notes

Once Operation C is aimed at a surviving Allied fleet, both sides have reasons to reinforce and accept a major carrier battle. Six Allied fleet carriers would be an upper extreme, while three or four plus a light carrier are more plausible. A possible doctrinal division gives British carriers the night strikes and daytime fighter defense, while American carriers launch at dawn and continue offensive sorties by day. Japanese survivors would answer with their own dawn strike, so reconnaissance, timing, and luck would govern the exchange rather than raw carrier count alone. Japan might also send heavier battleships than the Kongo class once it faced Allied capital ships as well as carriers.
