Task Force 473's 2010-11 deployment included a British Type 22 frigate and an American Arleigh Burke class destroyer alongside the French force. The arrangement is compared with later British groups built around a national carrier, core escorts, and supply ships. Allied ships can expand that core during a routine deployment. In a war, the carrier's navy may instead bring ships home from other commitments to assemble a larger national force. The Falklands War supplies the analogy: allies can cover those distant commitments even when they do not join the fighting themselves.

Allied escorts and covering commitments during war
A multinational carrier group can reinforce a national core in peacetime; in war, allies can also help by covering commitments elsewhere while ships concentrate for the conflict.
