Delay also gives the Allied navies time to concentrate

A delayed Pacific war would allow new naval construction and different deployments in Europe, while Japan could also enlarge its fleet.

Notes

Keeping the Pacific peaceful until 1943 would allow Britain and the United States to concentrate more resources in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Those resources could bring the U-boat threat under control sooner and support carrier attacks against Tirpitz, Scharnhorst, or the Italian fleet. Yorktown or Enterprise might serve with Force H, while less dispersed British resources could make additional carriers available. The delay would also give Japan two or three years to address weaknesses and enlarge its navy. Shinano might be completed as a battleship in that scenario. British and American planners would see the Japanese rearmament and could reinforce vulnerable positions during the same interval.
