Leadership failures did not make Allied soldiers inferior

North Africa, Malaya, and Singapore illustrate why flawed strategy and force employment should not be turned into a blanket claim that Allied soldiers were ineffective until 1943.

Notes

The claim that Allied armies were incapable until 1943 does not hold up against El Alamein and other earlier battles. Serious failures in strategy, leadership, and the employment of forces, especially in Malaya and Singapore, do not prove that the soldiers themselves lacked ability. Allied and German troops could all fight effectively while still being badly led or placed in the wrong position. Campaign outcomes should therefore be separated from national stereotypes and the myth of German super-soldiers.
