Algorithms create new limits for deception to exploit

As armed forces rely on automated tools to sort expanding sensor feeds, an opponent can study those tools' limits and design false information that survives their filters.

Notes

Information overload creates a problem for automated decision support. Algorithms become necessary when human staffs cannot sort every contact, signal, and report quickly enough. Their rules and capacity limits can themselves be studied, predicted, and saturated by an opponent. Ruse de guerre therefore persists in a sensor-rich environment because every new method of organizing information creates another judgment process that deception can target.
