The Hamilton name across cutters and submarines

The Hamilton name persisted across Revenue Cutter Service and Coast Guard vessels while also appearing on a U.S. Navy ballistic-missile submarine.

Notes

An Alexander Hamilton revenue cutter entered service in 1871 and later took part in the Spanish-American War. The Treasury-class Alexander Hamilton was sunk by a U-boat in 1942. The Navy's USS Alexander Hamilton served as a ballistic-missile submarine from 1963 to 1993, overlapping with the Coast Guard's high-endurance Hamilton from 1967 to 2011. A Legend-class Hamilton entered service in 2014. The sequence keeps the name in American maritime service across customs enforcement, patrol, wartime loss, and strategic nuclear deterrence, sometimes in the Navy and Coast Guard at the same time.
