Airborne early warning is more than a sensor

An uncrewed aircraft can carry an early-warning sensor, but that does not reproduce everything an AEW crew contributes. The airborne team organizes the battlespace and lets the carrier reduce its own transmissions and command burden. Moving those people and desks back into the ship consumes space and may not recreate the situational awareness gained from being airborne. Platform automation must therefore account for the entire command-and-control function rather than its most visible sensor.
