Aircraft numbers mattered only if commanders could bring them together at the decisive place. The listed force included 47 Blenheims, three Catalinas, 60 Buffaloes, 24 Hudsons, and roughly 30 Hurricanes arriving in time to become involved. Those aircraft could have made local air defence more viable, especially near Singapore, but they were dispersed among four Singapore airfields and five more across Malaya. Japanese attacks at several points pulled British fighter cover farther apart, a critical backdrop to Force Z's lack of protection.

Aircraft strength cannot substitute for concentration
Blenheims, Catalinas, Buffalos, Hudsons, and arriving Hurricanes looked more useful on paper than when divided among distant bases and threats.
