Agamemnon's service value

Agamemnon's long service record turns the famous Nelson ship into a procurement and battle-history case study.

Notes

HMS Agamemnon connects battle history with cost and service life. She was commissioned before launch because the Navy wanted her quickly, then fought at Ushant, the Saintes, Genoa, the Hyeres Islands, both battles of Copenhagen, Cape Finisterre, Trafalgar, and San Domingo. At Trafalgar, the 64 helped force the surrender of the much larger Santisima Trinidad. Her battle honours span twenty-six years, while the cost-per-year comparison explains why a smaller third rate could offer strong value even when larger 74s dominated later memory.
