An aft director preserves fire control after battle damage

Damage to the forward directors turns the ship's aft director from a secondary fitting into the system responsible for controlling the remaining gunfire.

Notes

The simulated battle leaves the forward fire-control positions apparently destroyed, so the aft director must take over. The surviving station should turn toward the target because it is now responsible for directing the guns. Separate control positions allow fire direction to continue after localized damage. The same battle shows how damage to vision and direction systems can suppress effective return fire before every gun is physically disabled.
