Chapter ยท 1:00:34-1:02:46

An admiral must visualize a multidomain battlespace

High command shifts from the tangible ship to an abstract picture spanning surface, subsurface, air, land, cyber, space, politics, and staff advice.

Notes

A captain can experience the ship as an extension of personal command, but an admiral must mentally step outside the flagship and rely on other leaders to act beyond sight. The relevant battlespace occupies surface, subsurface, air, and land domains as well as cyber, space, and political dimensions. The admiral therefore needs imagination and a staff of specialists, plus the judgment to combine and assess their information. This is a different intellectual task from captaincy because the decisions concern units, threats, and effects the admiral often cannot directly see or touch.
