Admiral and Victoria classes as steps toward Royal Sovereign

A design-history comment places the Admiral and Victoria classes in the experimental sequence that led to the Royal Sovereign class.

Notes

Ships that never fire in anger can be historically overlooked despite their influence. The Admiral and Victoria classes show the Royal Navy working through design problems on the way to Royal Sovereign. Their arrangements reveal turrets, ramming-related features, and other systems still being developed instead of appearing as a finished formula. These transitional choices helped establish the footprint for subsequent non-French battleship design. Their uneventful service does not diminish their importance to battleship design history.
