Which screen portrayal of Admiral Halsey is most accurate?

Which film portrayal of Admiral Halsey is the most accurate?

The oldest portrayal is probably the most accurate, while the later versions are more imaginative.

A viewer asks for a comparison of screen portrayals of Admiral Halsey and refers to the James Cagney film. The performer in question does not immediately come to mind, but the oldest portrayal is judged probably the most accurate. The later versions are described as increasingly imaginative rather than close character studies. The answer is a concise historical judgement, without a detailed review of the films.
