Adapt the research cycle to access rules

Advance booking and document limits can replace an iterative order-and-reread routine, so the research method must adjust to the archive's access system.

Notes

Advance booking replaced an earlier National Archives routine in which one day's findings guided the next document order. The old rhythm allowed important files to be read again at the following visit while a fresh group was brought out. Requiring documents and visits weeks ahead weakens that rapid feedback loop and shifts more work into pre-visit catalogue research. Archival method has to fit the repository's access system.
