The Acclamator is a practical fictional strategic transport

What is the most practical transport vessel in science fiction, and what limits the TARDIS?

The Acclamator can hold troops safely away from a battle and then move them rapidly to a planet, while a TARDIS offers awkward access through a single small doorway.

Practical transport depends on loading, egress, and operational use as well as internal volume. A TARDIS can hold a great deal, while its ordinary doorway creates an inconvenient bottleneck for moving a formation and its equipment. The Acclamator is a tactical and strategic lift ship that keeps troops back until the space battle is won. It can then bring the force forward quickly to secure the planet. Carrying capacity has limited value when it cannot be deployed at the required tempo.
