Why an Absalon-style hybrid suits smaller navies

A flexible hybrid warship can be valuable for a smaller navy, but it does not replace dedicated carrier, destroyer, or amphibious functions for a major power.

Question

How useful is the Absalon-class type of flexible ship, and can it be adapted with aviation facilities?

Short answer

It is a flexible solution for smaller navies, but it cannot fully substitute for a carrier, destroyer, or amphibious assault ship in a major fleet.

Notes

An Absalon-style ship is a flexible partial answer to several missions. For a smaller navy that cannot afford full specialist fleets, a roughly 60-percent solution across aviation, transport, combat, and support tasks can be extremely valuable. A major navy still needs the full flight deck of a carrier, the combat system of a destroyer, and the lift and command capacity of a dedicated amphibious ship. Enlarging the hybrid until it performs every role at full scale would also drive away much of the cost advantage that made the idea attractive.
