How Abdülaziz made war harder to begin

Before the 1877-78 war, Abdülaziz's Western friendships and working relationship with Russia made conflict diplomatically harder to begin and bought the empire time.

Notes

Before the Russo-Turkish War, Abdülaziz had partly contained the crisis through relationships in Western Europe and Russia. Those connections made war diplomatically harder to begin and bought the Ottoman Empire political and economic time. His influence was only partial, and he was not the sole cause of peace. After his removal, the diplomatic position he had cultivated fell apart.
