The historical separation between Fifth Battle Squadron and the battlecruisers is presented as the first visible tactical failure. If the formations remain together, German ships that close to engage the battlecruisers also face the Fifth Battle Squadron's 15-inch guns and capable directors. Historically, Commodore William Goodenough sent the first useful report that the whole High Seas Fleet was present at about 4:30, roughly an hour after contact began. Sturdee's staff would report immediately, allowing Jellicoe to accelerate south with a clearer position and tactical picture. The scenario does not make British shells perfect, but it makes German success more costly and reduces the time in which Jellicoe is operating on uncertain information.

A stronger run to the south
At first contact, a combined battlecruiser force and immediate reports to Jellicoe would make the run to the south more dangerous for the German scouting group.
