A network of Royal Navy colleges and specialist schools

Britannia belonged to a wider career-long system that included Portsmouth, Osborne, Greenwich, Keyham, and specialist schools.

Notes

Britannia was one part of a career-long Royal Navy education system. The earlier Portsmouth college and Osborne served different entry needs, while Greenwich became a higher-education centre. The engineering college at Keyham in Plymouth added a technical route before Britannia occupied a permanent building. Gunnery, torpedo, and other specialist schools supported later professional development, so Dartmouth never had to cover every requirement in an officer's career.
