The alternative plan avoids warning the defenders with an unsupported battleship attack and places landing forces ready to exploit a breakthrough. Older battleships receive anti-torpedo bulges, sealed cork-filled compartments, and mine nets before leading the advance. Their crews are reduced to the personnel needed for guns and engines so that ships lost while absorbing mines do not impose the same human cost. Troops can attack forts along the route while the fleet forces the channel, with the main force landing at Constantinople before Ottoman defenses can recover.

A different operational plan for Gallipoli
Prepared troops and expendable older battleships with added buoyancy offer a faster route through the Dardanelles minefields than the historical assault.
