Chapter ยท 41:01-50:21

The Venator is misused as a battleship

Star Wars repeatedly risks fighter-heavy Venators in close combat instead of exploiting their standoff reach.

Notes

The Venator commits a very large share of its internal volume to fighters and their support, making aviation its defining combat system. Star Wars battle scenes nevertheless place these ships in close exchanges as if they were battleships. That choice risks the carrier before its air group has exploited the reach bought by all that hangar volume. The guns should be insurance for emergencies while the fighters conduct the principal battle from a safer distance. Closing to finish a battleship after a long-range fighter strike has crippled it is a more sensible sequence.
