Chapter ยท 24:07-25:59

Using carrier fighters to support a Norway invasion feint

Watch how 881 Squadron's operations from HMS Furious helped make a feigned Norwegian invasion look credible during the invasion of Sicily.

Notes

While aboard HMS Furious, 881 participated in operations intended to suggest an Allied invasion of Norway during Operation Husky. Its fighters attacked German reconnaissance aircraft, depriving the enemy of patrol reports from the threatened area. Lost reconnaissance aircraft and radio activity could make a German staff infer the presence of a major force even when the real invasion lay elsewhere. The squadron therefore contributed to Husky through what German commanders believed about Allied intentions while the real invasion targeted Sicily.
