Tirpitz and the danger of copying the Royal Navy

Why Germany might fail to build the fleet best suited to the island campaign.

Notes

The German naval system might fail to recognise the need for such specialised ships. Tirpitz was deeply interested in fleet construction, but he does not appear as an innovator who pushed warship design toward a new strategic mission. His habitual answer was to seek a German version of the Royal Navy's fleet. Copying a globally oriented British model would leave Germany with ships even less suited to the siege problem created by Helgoland.
