The Harwich Force as Jutland's missing complication

Hear why an advancing Harwich Force could have turned the German withdrawal at Jutland into a confused close-range struggle.

Notes

The aggressive light-force culture behind the Heligoland Bight operation leads into a Jutland counterfactual. An unpaused Harwich Force might have met the High Seas Fleet during its second battle turn away. The German fleet could probably defeat those cruisers and destroyers in isolation, but perhaps not before their reports brought the Grand Fleet down upon the engagement. The example shows how a smaller force can matter by fixing, delaying, and reporting an opponent at the moment when escape is most urgent.
